simple handmade birthday cards

because you truly can’t beat a homemade card.

You will need

a birthday candle (i used the ‘goodlight’ birthday candles which we picked up in the ‘package free shop’ in new york, but any birthday candle would do)

if new york is a little far… i stumbled across these beautiful beeswax dipped candles on etsy, which may need to be trimmed depending on your card size; but there are plenty of alternative options out there online

you want to look for candles which are made with non-toxic dyes and avoid ‘paraffin’ candles as these are made from petroleum (who wants to inhale that?!)

washi tape (i opted for polka dot tape which you can get here)

scissors

letter stamps and ink (available here)

blank card and envelope set (i found mine here)

What to do

  1. Choose the orientation of your card (either portrait or landscape) and tape down your chosen candle right in the middle with your washi tape.

I prefer to snip the washi tape neatly with scissors rather than leaving a torn edge (it’s all in the small details after all).

  2. Then simply stamp your message beneath the candle…

    make a wish

    wish

    a birthday wish for you

  3. A nice touch is to slip some confetti inside your card or envelope - I kept some from the inside of a confetti balloon at Marlow Autumn’s second birthday.
