how to de-lime your kettle (the non-toxic way)
our kettle packed it in recently, and in an effort to save money and recycle - my grandma kindly gave us a spare alessi kettle she had in her loftspace.
having not been used in years it had accumulated LOTS of limescale so i set to work cleaning both interior and exterior to boil us a cuppa (with a newborn and a toddler, we certainly need one).
hopefully these tips work for you too.
You will need
bicarbonate of soda
water
unscented cleaning vinegar
lemons
before
step one
trial adding a couple of tablespoons of bicarbonate of soda with water and allow to soak for a few hours before rinsing
step two
boil the kettle with half water and half unscented cleaning vinegar before rinsing
step three
boil your kettle a few more times with sliced lemons. you can rub your lemons directly on the exterior of the kettle to brighten up the exterior too
